Braydon Leamer
Gameplay Programmer
The Backrooms was my first group project and one of my first experiences ever in the Unreal Engine. It was planned to not be very complex and had a production time of two months; with the Player meant to navigate through a maze-like facility to find a way to escape from an alien creature that is hunting them.
My role in this team of 5 was to program the roaming enemy to have it chase the player if it entered it’s sight range utilizing Pawn Sensing. This led me to testing and using NavMeshes for the level to guide the AI. I also programmed the interactivity with the environment
This was one of my first experiences working with a group of people on a real game project, which had it’s issues, but let me adopt better work practices and inter-personal skills to operate better in a team. This project also taught me how to properly go about version control which has helped me on my future projects
